The Spa at Wymara Resort, Grace Bay introduces Hot + Cold Contrast Therapy

The Spa at Wymara Resort, Grace Bay now offers an array of thermal rituals aimed at enhancing circulation, alleviating inflammation, and fostering profound relaxation through heat and cold immersion. Guests are invited to experience the "Nordic Cycle Classic" treatment, which incorporates traditional Finnish practices that alternate between dry heat and cold immersion, revitalizing both body and mind. This experience includes 2 to 3 rounds of dry sauna, a refreshing rinse and a brisk cold plunge, complemented by guided breathing exercises and a rejuvenating infused drink.

Cold plunge therapy, also known as cold water immersion, is a practice of submerging the body in cold water (typically between 50–59°F or 10–15°C) for a few minutes to promote physical and mental health benefits. It offers significant, evidence-backed advantages, including reduced muscle soreness, enhanced post-workout recovery, improved circulation, and decreased inflammation. Regular cold-water immersion can also boost mood by increasing dopamine levels by up to 250%, lower cortisol (stress hormone), improve immune function, and boost metabolism.

Luxury With A Conscience — At Wymara, we recognize that our stunning environment, ocean, and beaches draw visitors and encourage return guests. We are dedicated to protecting our home, including the world’s third-largest reef and diverse marine life. Our mission to preserve the planet is taken seriously, which is why we are proud to partner with The Turks and Caicos Reef Fund and present this $44,000 donation to support their sustainable restoration efforts.

Wymara is furthering its commitment to environmental sustainability and conservation, and guests of Wymara Resort + Villas will have the opportunity to donate $5 per night of their stay to the TC Reef Fund, an anticipated annual contribution of $105,000. The TC Reef Fund is a non-governmental organization whose focus is the protection of the ecosystem around the islands. Since 2010, the organization has worked tirelessly to preserve, protect and restore the marine environment of the Turks and Caicos Islands through education, research, advocacy, and inclusion.

Pool - Lates is a water-based exercise that uses Pilates principles to improve balance, flexibility, posture, and strengthen deep muscles. Wymara proudly supports The Turks and Caicos National Museum

Wymara Resort + Villas proudly supports The Turks and Caicos National Museum.

The Turks and Caicos National Museum officially opened its doors on November 23rd, 1991, embarking on the challenging journey of collecting historical materials related to the Islands and their inhabitants. Since then, the museum has become home to remarkable artifacts and educational resources, including the Molasses Reef Shipwreck, the oldest shipwreck ever excavated in the Western Hemisphere. Smaller exhibits showcase life and history in the Islands, such as the intact Taino Indian canoe paddle discovered in North Creek. This paddle, preserved in peat, dates back to approximately 1100 AD and is only the second pre-Columbian paddle ever found. The first, located in the Bahamas early in the century, was originally housed at the Heye Museum in New York, which has since merged with the Smithsonian.

As the Museum is a not for profit organization and is run as an independent company with a Board of Directors, Wymara Resort + Villas proudly supports it and other projects striving to preserve Turks and Caicos heritage and legacies.

We strive to help our guests explore our beautiful island and preserve this piece of paradise at the same time.

To celebrate Earth Day, our team participated in community clean-ups of Grace Bay Beach and Bight Park. It’s a tradition we look forward to continuing for years to come. Our guests received a special compostable seed-sprouting pencil that can be planted when they return home as a reminder of the efforts we all must make to protect our planet. As well, all year long all of our guests have the option to donate to the Turks and Caicos Reef Fund on check-out. This remarkable organization strives to protect and restore our barrier reef from the ravages of pollution and climate change.

At Wymara Resort + Villas, we’re committed to changing the world through impact and sustainability. We are proud to share that we removed every single-use plastic from the resort back in 2021. To start, we removed all plastic water bottles and, as an alternative, offered guests complimentary water from our convenient fill-up stations located in over 30 locations throughout the resort. Next, we stopped selling any beverages in plastic bottles and looked to source recyclable cardboard and glass options. We found alternative solutions to everyday disposable plastics commonly found in the hospitality industry - such as compostable bags made from plant starches that contain NO polyethylene, as well as bamboo or plant-based straws, and bamboo disposable cutlery. We also enhanced our guest experience by offering a vast range of bathroom amenities made with bamboo and containing zero plastic waste. We now offer our amenity product line in large bottles and work with sustainable, vegan, ethical partners. Our mission continues. We’re currently working on installing solar panels to maximize our natural resources like the abundant sunshine that Turks & Caicos enjoys.

We take pride in collaborating with local providers that are as engaged as we are in the protection of our environment. We created our signature scent program with a small local provider, and we also created a large range of spa products that are made here in Turks & Caicos. They are 100% natural and clean, using extracts of plants grown on the island. As an added bonus, we’re reducing our carbon footprint by not importing these items. In our restaurants, we offer local products and are conscious about sourcing as many fresh, local ingredients as we can.

We are always looking for ways to improve and build on our existing sustainability efforts, and we believe the modern travelers are sensible to all the efforts a resort like ours is doing and invite you to learn more below.

Wymara Resort + Villas Launches new Reef-Safe Sunscreen and Skincare range

Wymara Spa + Wildflower's exclusive collaboration for reef-safe, vegan, organic products developed and produced on island for minimal carbon footprint.

The Spa at Wymara Resort + Villas in Turks and Caicos has launched a first-of-its-kind collaboration with on-island skincare brand The Wildflower Skincare Lab to dramatically shift its carbon footprint and cement its practical sustainability efforts.

Since December 2023, all treatments at the resort’s Spa are being delivered using vegan, sustainable and organic products developed exclusively by The Wildflower Skincare Lab for Wymara. The collaboration also extends to include reef-safe sunscreen (SPF50 and SPF30), available at the Resort’s boutique.

Each of the hair, body and beauty products within the collaboration includes extracts from flowers and plants grown in the grounds of Wymara, rich in antioxidants and botanical nutrients. In fact, some of the innovative botanicals have been registered for the first time in commercial use by Wildflower Skincare Lab.

Wymara Spa Face Scrub – infused with bougainvillea and formulated with white willow bark, spirulina, chamomile, lavender and jojoba esters for smoothing and restoring delicate skin.

Wymara Massage Oils – for firming (with lemongrass, grapefruit, ginger and bergamot), nourishing (with amber, ylang ylang and chamomile), stimulating (cajeput, immortelle and rosemary), soothing (jasmine, yarrow and cypress) and purifying (fragonia and guava).

Wymara Firming Body Butter – for a luxurious body ritual with a rich shea and grapeseed cream enhanced with sea buckthorn and bougainvillea for skin health, and essential oils for the ultimate multi-sensory experience.

Other products in the Wymara Spa x Wildflower collection include face mists, cleanser, toner, serum, body scrubs, shampoo, hair mask, essential oils, after-sun and insect repellent.

Sarinah Sari, Spa Director at Wymara Resort + Villas, says “To find a supplier here with the level of quality and innovation that The Wildflower Lab has is incredible. It’s been such a pleasure to work together on developing these unique formulations for our guests, so that we can offer unique treatments that are 100% natural and of therapeutic grade quality while upholding our commitment to sustainability”.

Established in 2021 by founder and formulator Rosa Gargano, Wildflower Skincare Lab is an award-winning skincare brand based in Grace Bay, Providenciales. With a small team including chemist Moesha Stewart and Director Drew Scrymgeour, the brand has won nine Global Green Beauty awards for its unique and effective natural skincare products.

“The Wildflower Lab is intrinsically connected to Turks and Caicos,” explains Rosa “and we want to showcase all of the natural beauty here, not just the sea and the beaches. Our skincare range gives visitors the opportunity to truly experience the power of the nature around us. We run microbial and stability testing on every extract and product we manufacture, and secure verification from third party testing. On top of our locally-sourced extracts and testing, we only import ingredients that are eco-friendly, sustainably manufactured, certified organic and cruelty-free.”

Laureen Debrosse, Director of Operations at Wymara Resort + Villas has been heavily involved with the collaboration. “Sustainability is one of the bedrocks of our development,” she explains. “We have banned single-use plastic from all departments across the Resort and the Villas, redesigned our water system to increase recycling of grey water and support The Turks and Caicos Reef Fund’s work in coral conservation through a number of initiatives including volunteering and donations.

“As a tropical island that traditionally relies heavily on imports, reducing our carbon footprint is a priority. Since 2019, we have switched from miniatures to larger refillable toiletry bottles which helps to minimize imports and eliminates the use of single-use plastic.

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands (December 14, 2023) – Wymara Resort + Villas is pleased to announce its partnership with the Turks and Caicos Reef Fund, which will provide an avenue for its valued guests to contribute to the preservation efforts of the island’s reef system – the third largest in the world.

Wymara is furthering its commitment to environmental sustainability and conservation; beginning November 2023, guests of Wymara Resort + Villas will have the opportunity to donate $2 per night of their stay to the TC Reef Fund, an anticipated annual contribution of $50,000. The TC Reef Fund is a non-governmental organization whose focus is the protection of the ecosystem around the islands. What Sustainability Means to Us

Our Turks and Caicos Island s are internationally renowned as being ‘beautiful by nature’; so much so that we have been recognized as having the world’s most beautiful beach (Grace Bay Beach) for multiple years. This is by no means, a small accomplishment.

Here at Wymara we understand that our environment and picture-perfect ocean and beaches are part of what keeps attracting new visitors to our beautiful islands, and keep many guests returning year after year to our resort and villas. We are unquestionably interdependent to nature, consequently it is our mission to protect our home, our reef (being the third longest in the world!) and marine life, while playing our part in protecting the planet.

Now lets dive deeper…

Based on current trends, by 2050, the plastic in our oceans could weigh more than all the fish. This has many negative repercussions on our ecosystems, wildlife, and our own health. The strength and durability of plastic are the qualities that make it practical for everyday use, while at the same time being the qualities that make it devastatingly harmful once it finds its way into our oceans, where it can remain for centuries at a time. Most types of plastic are not biodegradable.

As of 2020, less than 9% of recyclable plastics are actually recycled in the USA. In an attempt to tackle the largest cause of ocean plastic pollution, we launched our sustainability program in 2021 and have committed to eliminating single-use plastic throughout our business, with the hope to inspire other businesses to do the same.

How do we define a single-use plastic? Plastic items, that are intended to be used only once or for a short period of time (less than one week) before they are thrown away. This includes those that can be recycled (e.g. petroleum based plastics, food and beverage packaging, disposable items and materials used for marketing use), unless we identify a legal and/or health and safety issue where single-use plastics are required.

What changes have we made to our business to align with our mission?

We have eliminated the use of single use plastic water bottles on our property and have installed many complimentary water dispenser stations around our property. ‘
We are retailing Wymara branded water bottles in our boutique to encourage our guests to refill and reuse at our water stations.
We have implemented a keyless entry system for our guests to check-in to our rooms and villas. This allows our guests to use their mobile devices as an alternative plastic key card to access their rooms and villas. The key cards are manufactured in Europe; hence this change has the added benefit of reducing our carbon footprint with reduced logistics and shipping.
We have reduced our menu printing by launching a new browser-based food and beverage ordering for in-room dining and pool and beach. Allowing guests to order from the comfort of their rooms and beach loungers directly from their mobile device.
We have introduced our new luxury, vegan, certified cruelty-free in-room amenity line – Aesop providing sustainable packaging, large, refillable bottles instead of the smaller single-use containers prevalent throughout the hospitality industry.
We have removed all plastic straws; plastic take out containers and plastic bags from our food and beverage outlets.
In order to reduce our energy and water consumption, we have reduced the frequency of replacing linens in our rooms unless requested to do so by our guests.
We have redesigned our water system to allow us to repurpose, recover and reuse water for resort landscaping.
We have curated a wellness menu at our restaurant which offers vegan, vegetarian and gluten free delights and we continue to work hard in using sustainable ingredients throughout our food and beverage operation.

As we evolve our understanding of sustainability and our environmental impact, we will continue to implement changes to our practices and procedures to keep striving towards our mission.
